3 Liter Charred American White Oak Aging Barrel Whiskey Bourbon Wine Cask

About this barrel

A 3 liter charred American white oak aging barrel is a popular first size for aging whiskey, bourbon or wine at home. In a small cask, more of the spirit touches the wood than in a big one, so it ages faster. This one is listed new.

How fast does a 3L whiskey barrel age bourbon?

Faster than a full-size cask, because there is more wood for each liter of liquid. Start tasting after the first few weeks and bottle it when you like the flavor.

• Prep first: fill it with water so the staves swell and stop any small leaks before you add spirit.
• Char: the char level isn't given, so check the listing.
• Accessories: check whether a stand, bung or spigot is included.
• Reuse: later fills usually pick up flavor more slowly, which suits wine or rum.
