How do I season a new oak whiskey barrel before filling?

Fill it with warm water and let it sit, topping it up as needed, until the staves swell and the seeping stops. Then drain it and add your spirit.

• Speed: an 800 ml barrel works fast, so start tasting after about a week.
• Fill choices: whiskey, bourbon, rum or batched cocktails.
• Unknowns: char level and included accessories aren't listed, so check the photos.
• Gifting: being new in box makes it easy to give as a present.
