3L Brass Band Oak BARREL / KEG for whiskey, tequila, wine, bourbon

About this barrel

A 3L oak barrel with brass bands hits a sweet spot for home aging. It's big enough for a few bottles and small enough to give whiskey, tequila, wine or bourbon a quick dose of oak. This one is listed as new.

Is a 3 liter barrel better than a 1 liter for bourbon?

It ages a little slower than a 1 liter cask, so you get more control and a bigger batch. That makes it easier to taste and draw the spirit off at the right moment.

• Brass bands: a warm, polished look on a bar cart or shelf.
• Tequila idea: turn blanco into a homemade reposado-style pour.
• Prep: fill with warm water and let it sit a day or more, until the staves seal.
• Check the listing: look for the char level and whether a stand and spigot are included.
