5 Gallon Oak Barrel Wooden Whiskey Wine Barrel 20L for Aging Spirits Beer Batch

About this barrel

A 5 gallon oak barrel is a sweet spot for home distillers and brewers. It's big enough for a real batch and small enough to move. This new 20 L whiskey and wine barrel is listed at $430.73 by an independent eBay seller.

Does a 20 liter barrel age spirits faster than a big one?

Yes. A smaller barrel puts more of the liquid in contact with wood, so flavor develops faster than in a larger cask. Taste often so it doesn't get too oaky.

• Swell it with water before the first fill.
• The char or toast level isn't in the title, so check the listing.
• Ask what's included, such as a stand, spigot or bung.
• It works for whiskey, rum, wine or a barrel-aged beer batch.
