2L Oak Aging Barrel Mini Whiskey Barrels Age Cocktails, Bourbon, Whisky, Tequila

About this barrel

Turning blanco tequila into something closer to a reposado is a fun first project for a 2L mini whiskey barrel. This new oak aging barrel costs $38.99 and is sized for that kind of small-batch experiment. Bourbon, whisky and batched cocktails work too.

Why does a mini oak barrel age spirits faster?

In a small barrel, a bigger share of the liquid touches the wood. In a 2-liter cask the spirit pulls color, vanilla and spice from the oak much faster than in a full-size barrel, so you see results in weeks, not years.

• Fill the barrel with water before use and wait until it stops leaking as the wood swells.
• Label each fill with the date and taste on a set schedule.
• Check the listing for the char level, since heavier char adds more smoky depth.
• Keep it away from heat and direct sun.
