What should you check on a used personalized whiskey barrel?

Start with the personalization. The title says personalized, so check the listing to see whether it's already engraved with someone else's name or can be customized for you. Also look for leaks, cracks or residue in the photos.

• A 1L barrel ages very fast, so taste every few days at first.
• A used barrel may have dried out, so swell it with water again before use.
• Ask what was aged in it before, because flavors linger in the wood.
• Need several for a wedding party? Ask the seller how many are available.
