1.5l Oak Aging Barrels Whiskey Barrel Dispenser Home Wine Bucket Whiskey

About this barrel

Sitting between the 1-liter and 2-liter sizes, a 1.5 liter oak aging barrel like this new $39.99 listing holds a bigger batch and still ages quickly the way small casks do. The title lists it as both a whiskey barrel dispenser and a home wine vessel.

Is a 1.5 liter oak aging barrel a good size for beginners?

It's a comfortable middle choice. It holds the same as two 750 mL bottles, and because so much of the liquid touches wood, you can taste changes soon.

• Before filling: soak it with water until the staves swell and the drips stop.
• Wine or whiskey: stick to one type of drink per barrel, since flavors carry over between batches.
• Verify extras: check the listing for a stand, spigot, char level and lid.
• Countertop serving: doubles as a rustic dispenser for guests.
