1 Gallon Oak Aging Barrel (Distillery Series - Steel Hoops, Unvarnished) with...

About this barrel

The Distillery Series 1 gallon oak aging barrel in this new listing has no varnish and uses steel hoops, for a plain, working-cask look. It holds about 3.8 liters and is listed for $165.03 by an independent eBay seller.

Why pick an unvarnished 1 gallon oak aging barrel?

Bare wood lets the whole barrel breathe. That allows slow evaporation and oxidation, which help mellow spirits over time. It also gives a rustic, distillery-floor look.

• Steel hoops: they hold the staves tight. Check them after the first water soak.
• Unvarnished staves: some weeping during the first water soak is normal.
• Char: the title doesn't mention it, so check the description.
• Extras: the title is cut off after “with,” so check the listing to see what else is included.
