American Oak Barrel (2 liter) with Chalkboard Front - Charred Mini Keg for Ag...

About this barrel

A 2 liter charred American oak barrel is one of the quickest ways to try barrel aging at home. This new mini keg has a chalkboard front, so you can write the spirit, the fill date or a custom name right on the barrel. An independent eBay seller lists it at $111.41.

How fast does a 2 liter charred American oak barrel work?

Fast. A small barrel gives far more wood contact per ounce than a large one, so color and flavor build within weeks. Sample often so it doesn't get too oaky.

• Swell it with water before the first fill to seal the staves.
• The char adds the caramel and vanilla notes typical of whiskey.
• The chalkboard front makes it a good personalized gift.
• Check the listing to see whether a stand or spigot is included.
