5-Gallon 20-Liter BOURBON Whiskey American Oak Moonshine Aging BARREL Cask Char3

About this barrel

Ready for a full-size batch? This 5 gallon American oak bourbon barrel holds 20 liters, and the title lists a Char 3 interior. It's listed new for $200.00 by an independent eBay seller.

What does Char 3 mean for whiskey and moonshine?

A #3 char is a medium-heavy burn and a common choice for bourbon. It gives deep color and caramel or vanilla notes. In a barrel this size, flavor builds more slowly and evenly than in a mini cask, so plan on a longer aging time.

• Good for: clear moonshine, new-make whiskey, or finishing a store-bought bourbon.
• Swell first: a 20L cask needs a full water soak before you fill it.
• Weight: a full 5-gallon barrel is heavy, so set it up where it will stay.
• Confirm: whether a bung, spigot or stand is included.
