10 Gallon White Oak Cider Barrel Mill Cooperage Spirits Aging Bourbon Whiskey

About this barrel

This 10 gallon white oak barrel from Mill Cooperage is listed as a cider barrel and gives serious home brewers and distillers about 37.9 liters of aging space. It's used and priced at $175.00, and the title says it's suitable for bourbon and whiskey as well as cider.

Can you age bourbon in a used 10 gallon cider barrel?

Yes, and the cider it held before may add a light fruit note. Ask what it held last and for how long.

• American white oak: the classic wood for bourbon-style flavor.
• Rehydrate: a used barrel that has sat empty needs a thorough soak in water.
• Slow and steady: at this size, plan on months of aging.
• Weight: a full 10 gallon barrel is heavy, so set it on a cradle before you fill it.

It also suits sour beer or cider projects.
