About this barrel
A 20 liter oak barrel for storing whiskey, rum or brandy doesn't have to strain your budget. This vertical barrel with faucet and bracket is listed new at $73.99, one of the lower prices for this style of 20L barrel on OakKeg.
Is storing spirits in oak different from aging them?
Not really. Any spirit kept in an oak barrel keeps changing, picking up flavor and color from the wood as small amounts of air pass through. If you just want to store it, taste it now and then so it doesn't get too woody.
- Swell it with water before the first fill.
- Keep it full and in a cool spot with a steady temperature.
- Check the listing for char level, faucet material and dimensions.
- Compare seller details, since listings that look the same may differ.
