20L Vertical Wooden Wine Barrel w/ Faucet&Bracket for storing whiskey, rum, brandy

About this barrel

Homebrewers after barrel-aged character could use this as an oak barrel for aging beer. Its 20 liters is close to a typical 5-gallon homebrew batch, and it comes new with a faucet and bracket.

Does a 20L oak barrel for aging beer make sense?

It can. Stouts, porters and strong ales are classic candidates for oak. The seller lists it for whiskey, rum and brandy, so using it for beer is your call. A barrel that held spirit first can also pass some of that flavor to the beer.

• Swell it with water before filling to prevent leaks.
• The listing says nothing about pressure, so age flat beer and carbonate it afterward.
• Check the char level in the seller's description.
• Keep it full and cool to limit oxygen and spoilage.
