Whiskey Wine Barrel, Vintage Reclaimed Used Wood Barrel, Primitive Rum Keg, O

About this barrel

This vintage reclaimed whiskey barrel is a used oak keg that an independent eBay seller lists at $495. The listing title ends with the letter O, which seems to set it apart from several similar primitive barrels from the same seller. Its worn staves and aged character suit a home bar, a rustic living room or a restaurant entryway. Capacity is listed only as other, so open the eBay listing for dimensions before you plan a spot for it.

Can a vintage reclaimed whiskey barrel still hold liquid?

Possibly, but don't assume it. Older barrels often dry out, and gaps between staves may or may not close after soaking.

• Ask the seller whether the barrel has been leak tested.
• Look closely at photos of the heads, bung hole and hoops.
• If you try aging, swell it with water first and watch for drips.
• Confirm the letter O matches the barrel pictured, since the series looks alike.
