20L Vertical Wooden Wine Barrel w/ Faucet&Bracket for storing whiskey, rum, brandy

About this barrel

Aging whiskey at home takes patience and the right container. This new 20L vertical oak barrel with a faucet and bracket holds a serious batch, about 5.3 gallons, and is listed at $94.54.

How long should whiskey sit in a 20L vertical oak barrel?

Longer than in a mini barrel. A 20 liter cask has less wood surface for each liter than a 2L or 5L keg, so flavor builds more slowly. Start tasting after a few weeks and decide by taste, not by the calendar.

• Start with a spirit you like: a barrel softens whiskey and adds oak, but it won't fix a harsh base.
• Swell it first: fill it with water to tighten the staves before you add whiskey.
• Char: the char level isn't specified, so read the seller's description.
• Easy sampling: pour tastes straight from the faucet as the whiskey develops.
