20L Vertical Wooden Wine Barrel w/ Faucet&Bracket for storing whiskey, rum, brandy

About this barrel

A medium oak aging barrel like this 20L vertical cask sits between fast mini barrels and full-size casks. It holds about 5.3 gallons of whiskey, rum or brandy, and its faucet and bracket let you sample without disturbing the batch.

Does barrel size change how spirits age?

Yes. In a small barrel, more of the liquid touches wood, so it ages fast but can overshoot. A 20 liter barrel ages more slowly, which gives you more time to catch the flavor you want.

• 1 to 5L: often shows results in weeks and needs frequent tasting.
• 20L: a slower pace, better for larger batches when you're willing to wait.
• Prep: soak it with water until the staves stop seeping.
• Unknowns: check the listing for char level and dimensions.
