5L/1.32Gal Wine Barrel Wooden Whiskey Barrel Bourbon Wine Barrel Home

About this barrel

This 5L wooden wine barrel is a small oak cask for home use, listed new at $31.10. It holds 1.32 gallons, and although it's sold as a wine barrel, the title also names whiskey and bourbon, so you can use it for either.

Is a wooden wine barrel this size good for red wine?

It can add oak notes to reds in a short time. Because the cask is small, check the flavor every few days so the wood doesn't overpower the fruit.

• Soak it with water first, because dry staves can leak at the start.
• Store it in a cool spot with a steady temperature.
• Confirm the interior treatment (toast or char) in the listing.
• After emptying it, refill soon or store it the way the seller recommends.
