About this barrel
Keeping a barrel in good shape is mostly about moisture. This 1 gallon wooden whiskey barrel makes that easy, with a spigot for drawing off spirit and a bung for sealing the top. It's a new 5 liter oak cask with its own stand, listed at $153.51.
How do you care for a 1 gallon oak whiskey barrel between batches?
The main rule is not to let it sit empty and dry out. Refill it promptly so the staves stay swollen. If it does dry out, soak it in water again before the next fill.
- Before first use, fill it with water and let it sit until any leaks seal up.
- Use the spigot to draw samples without disturbing the bung.
- Rotate spirits for layered flavor, such as rum after whiskey.
- Check the listing for the char level and full item details.
