Brand New American Oak Aging 30 Gallon Barrel

About this barrel

A 30 gallon American oak aging barrel is a big step up from countertop minis. An independent eBay seller lists this one brand new for $449.00. At about 113.6 liters, it fits full batches of whiskey, wine, beer or even vinegar.

How long does aging take in a 30 gallon barrel?

Longer than in a small barrel. A large barrel has less wood contact per liter, so flavor builds more slowly and evenly, and many distillers and brewers prefer that for balance.

• The char or toast level isn't stated, so ask the seller before buying it for spirits.
• Swell the barrel with water before filling so the staves seal.
• Plan for floor space and a sturdy rack, because a full barrel is heavy.
• Ask what hardware comes with it, such as a bung or spigot.
