Can you age spirits in a used Kentucky bourbon barrel?

Many hobbyists reuse bourbon barrels for beer, rum or vinegar. Results depend on the barrel's condition, which you'll need to confirm with the seller.

• Swell it with water for several days before filling, then check for leaks.
• Ask how long it has been empty, since dry barrels need more soaking.
• Confirm size in the listing, because capacity isn't stated.
• Not aging anything? It still makes a sturdy bar table or display stand.

Note that the price covers one barrel only.
