20L Vertical Wooden Wine Barrel w/ Faucet&Bracket for storing whiskey, rum, brandy

About this barrel

Homebrewers looking for an oak barrel for aging beer often find full-size casks far too big. At 20 liters, this new vertical oak barrel is close to the size of a typical homebrew batch, and it comes with a faucet and bracket. The listed price is $95.50.

Is a 20L oak barrel for aging beer a good fit?

It can be. Imperial stouts, barleywines and strong ales all benefit from oak, and a barrel that has already held spirits adds extra character. The title lists whiskey, rum and brandy as uses, so beer is your call.

• Age a spirit first, then follow with a stout for a whiskey-barrel beer.
• Keep sour beers in their own barrel to avoid cross-contamination.
• The barrel won't carbonate the beer, so bottle or keg it afterward.
• Swell it with water before the first fill.
