Red Head Barrels 3L Distillery Grade Charred Oak Aging Barrel Whiskey Rum Wine

About this barrel

Step up from the usual 2 liter size with this Red Head Barrels 3L charred oak aging barrel. It's billed as distillery grade and sold for aging whiskey, rum or wine. It's new and listed at $72.09.

Is a 3 liter oak barrel better than a 2 liter?

It's a trade-off. A 3 liter barrel holds about four standard bottles and ages a little more slowly than a 2 liter, so you have more time to catch the flavor you want.

• Distillery grade is the seller's own term. Check the listing to see what it means.
• The inside is charred, which suits bourbon-style whiskey and dark rum.
• Swell it with water before the first fill to seal the staves.
• Check whether a stand, spigot and bung come with it.
