Vintage Jack Daniels Whiskey Oak Barrel Quarter Used Charred Inside. Signed

About this barrel

Not every whiskey fan has room for a full cask, and that's where a vintage Jack Daniels quarter barrel comes in. This used oak barrel is described as charred inside and signed. An independent eBay seller lists it at $395.00.

Can a charred quarter barrel be used to age whiskey again?

Some people reuse charred barrels to finish spirits, and smaller barrels age faster because more of the liquid touches the wood. A vintage barrel may have dried out, though, so swell it with water and test it for leaks first.

• Ask who signed it and where the signature is.
• Confirm the exact capacity, since the size is listed as "other."
• Filling it could change how the signature looks, so decide on display or use first.
• Check the photos of the char and the barrel heads.
