Antique Wood Banded Barrel - Whiskey Keg-Canteen - Rum- Water - 1800’s - 14”x 6”

About this barrel

This antique wood barrel canteen measures 14 x 6 inches, and the seller dates it to the 1800s. Small banded kegs like this carried whiskey, rum or plain water. That's why collectors of frontier, farm and military items look for them.

What should I check on an 1800s whiskey keg canteen?

Look at the bands, the bung or spout opening, and the seams between the staves. Gaps and dryness are normal at this age. Since the 1800s date comes from the seller, ask what it's based on.
